For centuries, the society deemed sex workers in a negative ways because of different perspectives, might it be moral standards or socio-cultural reasons.

But, for actress Julia Barretto, there’s more stories about the sex workers than what we see and they also deserve the equal respect from the society.

“Mataas ang tingin at mataas ang respeto ko sa kanila,” the 25-year-old actress tells MB Life. “They are my spirit animal.”

Julia is now starring in a movie titled “Expensive Candy” where she plays the role of a sex worker.

According to her, in order to give justice to her character, she went undercover to the red light district of Angeles, Pampanga to immerse herself into this world and discover why some people are choosing this type of life.

“I wanted to get to know these women. I’m always inspired by them, yung kayod, yung confidence talaga sa sarili,” she says. “Iba-iba ‘yung kwento ng mga tao, and I find them very interesting and inspiring.”

In the end, Julia believes that no one should be ashamed of something they’ll do in order to survive.
