The concept for this year’s national costume is “Habi,” the Tagalog word for weave where 30 percent of the candidates’ costumes should be composed of Philippine textiles or weaving.

“It represents the rich stories and craftsmanship of different tribes and communities throughout the archipelago,” the Miss Universe Philippines says on its Facebook page. “Aside from promoting our tourism, the Miss Universe Organization also aims to promote and put forward Filipino textiles and weavings because these are treasures we can’t afford to lose. This is an industry we want to continue and help strengthen.”

The Philippine textile creates a structural and culture of our incredible and appealing history. The candidates showed simple elegance using indigenous fabric and were skilled in weaving and textiles here in the country.
