For some reasons, the tremendous effect of typhoon Jolina is not really penetrating social media. When the reality is, according to reports, thousands of people have evacuated, electricity supply was cut, and roads are impassable due to flooding.
A college university named BU LAWOD, is trying to shed light to this reality by spearheading an online donation drive for Masbate.
On its Facebook post, the organization shares the current situation in the said area.
“House after house had been badly damaged or destroyed. Many areas in Masbate have experienced major flooding and around 700 families were rescued and evacuated, especially those residing in coastal barangays. Due to the onslaught of #TyphoonJolina on Tuesday, September 07, 2021, the situation in Masbate is getting more tragic, severing what had become since the previous climb of COVID-19 cases in the province,” the post says. “In response to this, the BU LAWÔD Community together with the other organizations and media partners appeal for your support through our donation drive for the typhoon-hit areas in Masbate. Our organization is determined to collect financial funds and non-monetary donations for the severely affected families.”
Meanwhile, org member Devorah Jane L. Saldo from Bicol University, shares with MB Life the photos other students took in different areas.
“To be of help is what makes our country true to its ‘Bayanihan’. We long to see your charity once again. This donation drive is personal to us and with you, we know we are not alone,” the org says.
BU LAWOD also says that people need food, beddings, and hygiene products.
To those who wish to send in-kind donations. contact their volunteers indicated in the post.
