The #CreateKindness campaign aims to combat cyberbullying through kindness and compassion
Have you ever experienced being bullied online?
If yes and you’re feeling down, know that you are not alone. According to studies, about 37 percent of young people between the ages of 12 and 17 have been bullied online, with 30 percent having had it happen more than once.
Meanwhile, UNICEF says that “In the Philippines…..national data show that cyberviolence affects almost half of children aged 13-17. The prevalence of cyberviolence for males (44 percent) is almost the same for females (43 percent).One-third of cyberviolence experienced by Filipino children are in the form of verbal abuse over the internet or cellphone, while a fourth are through sexual messages.”
And to combat this unhealthy and toxic culture online, social media platform TikTok has kicked off their #CreateKindness campaign. This aims to boost awareness about cyberbullying, and promote kindness and inclusion online.
As part of their program, the company released several heart-touching videos that aim to remind everyone the importance of showing kindness both offline and online. This anti-bullying animated video series also offers perspectives from different creators on how choosing kindness can help combat harmful behavior on the app.
Here are they:
During the campaign’s launch, TikTok creator, Julienne Ipapo, also shared how bullying affects her and what we can do to help others. “Our words have the power to lift people up. To make people’s day or to break people. There’s so much negativity and hurt in this world,” she says. “May we choose our words and actions wisely, may we walk humbly, may we practice compassion and #CreateKindness online, and in our physical realm, to create this chain reaction of spreading love, and hope to combat the bad that lurks around in society, and in the world.”
You, too, can take part in celebrating kindness and preventing cyberbullying by joining the #CreateKindness hashtag challenge. Post your own content on the platform that shows compassion for others, and leave comments on others’ videos that can inspire them to spread kindness, too.
