Do you ever finish a tube of lip balm, throw it away, buy a new one, and repeat all over again?

Such is the cycle Akkula PH is hoping to break with its own version of the lip care essential—plantable vegan lip balm.

The homegrown brand describes it as “100% compostable, sustainable, and earth-friendly” and “great for moisturizing and relieving chapped and dry lips.”

“[It is] made from candelilla wax, which is vegan, instead of beeswax,” the brand adds in the product’s description on their website. “It [is] derived from the leaves of the Mexican shrub Euphorbia antisyphilitica.”

Sounds promising, doesn’t it? Wait ’til we get to the packaging.

Unlike typical lip balms, which are mostly in disposable plastic, Akkula PH’s are in compostable paper tubes. Once you’ve emptied it out, it can go straight to your home garden and grow into plants like basil, lavender, mint, spinach, and thyme.

“We’ve made the entire thing plantable. We’ve infused seeds inside our lip balm packaging,” the brand says. “The purpose of this is to leave absolutely no traces of waste on our dear planet Earth.”

The plantable vegan lip balm, which comes in mint, vanilla, grapefruit, orange, hemp, lemon and tinted variants, retails for P180.
