If you’ve seen the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), it’s pretty obvious that Lady Gaga owned the night. Not only did she win four awards—song of the year, best cinematography , and best collaboration for Rain on Me, as well as the Tricon award—she also made sure to wear an important accessory—face mask.

But as per usual with Lady Gaga, she did not just wear any face covering. In her many appearances during the live show, the American singer, songwriter, and actress showed an impressive collection of avant-garde, only-Gaga-can-pull-off masks.

Here are some of the masks she wore during the 2020 MTV VMAs.

1. The Rain On Me mask

As the singer accepted the best collaboration award for “Rain on Me,” featuring Grande, Gaga donned a leather pink mask that could well look like it’s straight out of a horror movie.

3. The Song of the Year mask

For another recognition of Rain On Me as  Song of the Year, Gaga appeared on stage yet again with a different mask. This time, she opted for an avant-garde maroon mask with studded tusks.

4. The Tricon Award mask

Probably the most approachable (yet just as glamorous) of her facial coverings for the night, Gaga wore a sparkly silver mask while accepting the MTV VMAs first ever TRICON award, honoring her as an entertainer, fashion icon, and an activist.

The Rain On Me singer, ahead of MTV VMAs, also shared a throwback photo ahead of this year’s, featuring a then mere fashion decision that’s now an essential.

“I was wearing face shield before it was a thing,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

While it seemed like being chic in the middle of a pandemic was all this show of masks were for, Lady Gaga herself encouraged everyone to wear face coverings for everyone’s safety.

“Stay safe, speak your mind, and I might sound like a broken record, but wear a mask,” she said during one of her speeches at the MTV VMAs. “It’s a sign of respect.”

We stan a face mask-wearing queen!
