Netizens and foodies alike were surprised as news of Jollibee acquiring Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf broke out.

Not only is the Filipino food corporation set on the specialty coffee and tea brand’s local operations, it is also buying out the whole firm.

Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) owns a number of food chains in the country, including Greenwich, Mang Inasal, Red Ribbon Bakeshop, Chowking, and Burger King Philippines.

In a Manila Bulletin report, JFC said it would invest $100 million or PhP 5.13 billion via its subsidiary, Jollibee Worldwide Pte Ltd, in a new Singapore-based holdings company to make the acquisition of the California-based brand happen.

“The acquisition of The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf will be JFC’s largest and most multinational so far with business presence in 27 countries,” founder Tony Tan Caktiong said.

Twitterverse quickly erupted with reactions on the acquisition from netizens and as per usual, it was nothing short of humor.

Here are some of the funniest reactions to the Jollibee-Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf news.

We guess it was meant to bee.

Yes, that cute and fluffy bee is hella rich.

Jollibee did not come to play.

We can’t see how this is impossible.

Chickenjoy and espresso sounds good to us.

Becky, ube lattes and calamansi-flavored tea better happen.

We’re sure Hetty wouldn’t mind the minor change.

Sounds like a good name to us.

“Bida ang beans” for a new tagline, maybe?
