Coca-Cola, in partnership with the creators of Stranger Things, is reliving one of the company’s darker chapters as New Coke makes a comeback.

The company is bringing back the New Coke from 1985 in honor of the upcoming third season of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things. On Facebook, Coca-Cola posted an ’80s-inspired video featuring Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and the rest of the gang drinking the New Coke.

The third season of the show that will be release in July will take place in the summer of 1985, when Coca-Cola changed its formula for Coke. If you’re not familiar about the New Coke controversy, it was considered as one of the biggest marketing blunders of all time and the new version was dropped after 79 days.

“The summer of 1985 did in fact change everything for us with the introduction of New Coke, which was also arguably one of the biggest pop culture moments of that year,” director of Coca-Cola Trademark, Coca-Cola North America Oana Vlad said.

Meanwhile, Peter Shoemaker, director of sparkling category commercialization said that they had to retrieve the recipe from the safe for the said partnership. They also had to recreate the logo and the cans.

“All told, everything took about six months and was top secret,” he said.
