2018’s Venom wasn’t exactly what audiences expected, despite a good performance by Tom Hardy, but a post-credits scene teasing the arrival of the villain Carnage in the sequel has fans getting excited.
The question though is who will be the one sitting in the director’s chair for Venom 2. Well Tom Hardy himself may have just spoiled who it may be – Andy Serkis, the iconic actor behind Gollum from Lord of the Rings and Caesar from the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise.
Hardy posted on his Instagram (but has since deleted) a photo of Serkis with the caption “♠️🔥”. Serkis is very well-known for his motion-capture performances like Gollum, and also as Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars and the titular character in King Kong.
Serkis’ two directorial credits are Breathe and the Netflix film Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, where he also played Baloo. He also served as a second unit director for The Hobbit films, in addition to reprising Gollum – since Venom relied on a lot of visual effects, Serkis sounds like a good choice!
Other directors shortlisted for Venom 2 are Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings, Bumblebee). Who do you want behind the camera for the Venom sequel?
