Damn you, Bandai! These look great. In today’s toy world of mashups, the Star Wars Movie Realization series from Bandai is the ultimate “east-meets-west” collaboration. For those who don’t know, George Lucas took to Akira Kurosawa’s films for inspiration. The Jedi Order, lightsabers, Darth Vader’s armor … don’t they all remind you of feudal Japan?
As such, it really does make sense to release a toy line that breaks down our Star Wars favorites to their original inspiration. In this post we tackle SAMURAI TAISHO DARTH VADER (in Death Star Armor), RONIN BOBA FETT, and the ASHIGARU STORM TROOPER.
All of these figures stand close to 7″ tall and come with interchangeable sets of hands to grip their swords and blasters. Darth Vader on the other hand doesn’t carry a blaster (Why shoot when you can Force Choke!) and instead dual-wields his red lightsaber blade and katana. His alternate hand is that of a “come at me bro!” taunting gesture.
In terms of playability, there’s a lot of versatility with poses, however the armor, by design, limits movement. The joints are not fully articulate, but still make for fun play and toy photography.
