Some of the country’s best ukulele players are coming together at the 5th Philippine Ukulele Festival (PUF) from March 30 -31, 2019 at Eton Centris, Quezon City.
Headlining the event are ukulele virtuoso Pao Gumba, recording artists BennyBunnyBand, and various school and community-based ukulele clubs. Also performing in the two-day event are four renowned players from Hong Kong, South Korea, and Taiwan.
The PUF is organized by ukulele specialist store Happy Music/Ukulele Philippines. It was first held in 2013 to bring back the love and appreciation for ukelele that was emerging at the time.
“We saw that more and more Filipinos were discovering the ukulele. There was a very obvious need to make local uke enthusiasts know that there were many of them, enough to develop a local scene,” explains Leon Lagrama of Happy Music.
With around 70 different acts in the lineup, it will be a full day at the 5th PUF. Performances will start as early as 11 in the morning until 11 in the evening on both days.
Aside from the free entertainment, festival guests may also avail of the free ukulele lessons and enjoy some shopping at the bazaar to be participated in by instrument sellers and makers from different parts of the country.
