Let’s be real, the traffic situation in the Philippines is the worst. That’s why we do all our best to be productive when stuck in traffic. Luckily, electric jeepneys with features that can help us brave the traffic even better are now here.
As part of our government’s public utility vehicles modernization program, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) launched eSakay, Meralco’s electric vehicles venture, on Friday, January 18.

Started on January 18, a total of 15 units are now servicing commuters going to Mandaluyong City Hall from MRT Buendia via Jupiter street. It’s not the normal e-vehicles that you’ve seen before because these jeepneys are equipped with special features such as free WiFi, Automatic Fare System, USB ports for charging, and CCTV. If you’re thinking about the fare, no need to worry. The minimum fare is also priced at P9 and maximum fare is at P15. Sulit!

The vehicles are 100 percent electric and each e-jeep can carry up to 40 passengers. E-Sakay is operating from 5am to 12mn.
Have you tried riding the new eSakay?
