The new year just became spectacular for Filipino Overseas Worker (OFW) Jovan Aquino who won the first season of “The One.”
“The One” is the largest reality singing competition in United Arab Emirates that runs for a month. Its panel of judges are composed of American voice coach Stacy Smith, Indian singer Shibani Kashyap, and Jeewan Gurung from the Nepal-based rock band The Edge.
On his Instagram account, Aquino shared his thoughts about this important moment in his life. “I’m still speechless and I still couldn’t believe it. What a way to close 2018’s door and what a great start for me this 2019!” he said. “It was a month-long competition which I just enjoyed…not thinking that eventually, I’ll be the one.”
On the finals that was held in IMG Worlds in Dubai, Aquino fought head to head with another Filipino contender Ivy Grace Paredes. Performing his contest piece “Feeling Good” by Michael Buble, he was hailed as “The One” Season 1 grand champion and received AED 12,500 worth of cheque (approximately P179,000) as prize.
