Just before we end the month of November, Jegs Benedict is throwing a launch party on November 24, Saturday at saGuijo in Makati.
The folk pop band composed of Jegs Ocbina on vocals and ukulele, AJ Soliman on bass, Danae Atendido on keys, and Gerome Reyes on drums, will finally release their debut single entitled “Desperately.”
In an interview with MB Life, the quartet explained that they’ve decided to launch “Desperately” as their debut single because it “juxtaposes melancholic lyrics over lighthearted instrumentation.”
“It’s a less cheesy way of saying to someone how badly you wanted to see them. And the way the song is written was very relaxed which balances the heavy meaning of [the] lyrics,” Gerome added.
When asked about the story behind the song, Jegs shared that the song meant to describe the feeling when you started dating someone.
“Alam mo yung scenario na parang nakahiga ka lang sa sahig waiting for your significant other to come home after a busy day? I think that image sparked the whole songwriting process for “Desperately.” The verses talks about keeping yourself busy just to entertain yourself to pass the time. It’s like that feeling when you just started dating someone and you just can’t get them out of your mind,” Jegs said.
“Desperately” Single Launch Party is happening on November 24, 8pm at saGuijo Cafe + Bar, Makati. Also performing at the launch are buzzworthy bands, Bita and the Botflies, Nathan & Mercury, and Pinkmen; promising folk singer-songwriters Rice Lucido and Nikki Nava; and Hong Kong-based punk band, DR.EGGS. Door charge is P300 with one free drink.
