If makeup has one rule, it’s that there are no restrictions, only guidelines. We’ve heard it multiple times before, Ex-Batallion’s “Hayaan Mo Sila” levels. And promises are not the only ones meant to be broken. Rules din. Similar to how we deal with life issues and lovelife woes, though, it’s always easier said than done.
We got the chance to ask local makeup artists (MUAs) and J. Cat Beauty Ambassadors Hanna Penchon, Teena Arches, and Katchie Mejias what their bold makeup look must-haves are during the brand’s Turn Up The Volume campaign launch.
Hanna Penchon attests to the versatility of a lipstick, even on intense makeup looks ala Effie Trinket. She probably used it all over her face for the odds to be in her favor, mga mumsh. Anyway, Hanna says owning a reliable lip color in a flattering coral shade can take your face-of-the-day to the next level. “You can use it for the lips, the cheeks, and even on the eyes,” she explains. “The pinkish-orange shade complements the Filipina skin tone well.”
If you’re all about the bushy, Cara Delevigne eyebrow life, Teena Arches begs to differ. For the energetic MUA, it’s all about the lashes (and a glue that sticks like linta). “It’s a curtain to the window of the soul kasi so I’d rather go for lashes than brows,” she says. “I think anyone with full lashes can instantly look sweet yet flirty kaya lashes are life for me.” Being sweet yet flirty is life for us, too!
Katchie Mejias loves everything holographic, especially on makeup looks that are meant to impress and express. After all, that’s #goals for all of us, ‘di ba? She says highlighters are the easiest way to achieve that blinding, Jeffree Star glow. “I can’t live without highlighter,” she says. “Usong-uso din kasi ‘yung [looks na] may dimension sa face and highlighters do just that.” This gorgeous gal also thinks that this glow-giving God-send can be used on every part of the face. No gaya-gaya moment here with Hanna. Just pure MUA, X Men-like telepathy.
