Oh, summer! There are so many good things about you – the beach, halo-halo, the fiestas, and loads of lazy days. Pero aminin natin bes, we dread the heat of the season and the many unpleasant things that come with it: sweat, shiny face, cakey foundation, and greasy hair. (Yuck, ‘di ba?) Lucky for us, there are beauty products that work like magic to save us from looking like a mess. Here are all you’ll ever need to look #cuteAF (Bretman Rock levels, mga mumsh) this summer.

1. Face Mist

If you think moisturizing the skin day and night is enough, experts in Korea can make you second-guess your skincare routine. A lot of mists have stepped up their game; some act as toner, setting spray, serum, and skin cooler. Lahat-lahat. Pati na rin konsensiya mo girl. Joke lang.) But hydration is still its best benefit. The skin’s protective barrier is weaker when dehydrated which results to damaged skin. So go spritz that mist. Your face needs it.

Reco/s: The Body Shop Mint Mattifying Face Mist (60 mL), price not available; Nature Republic Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel Mist (150mL), P275

2. Lip Balm

Dry, chapped lips are not cute (and we can’t imagine that it will ever be). The skin on your lips is thinner than the rest of the body, which means it needs a little bit more TLC. And yes, you can use lip moisturizers for your dry cuticles. (Kasing tuyo ng humor mo minsan #sorrynotsorry) It can also work on minor burns and scalds, sunburn, gravel rash, cuts, and small open wounds. Drink lots of water, too. Dry lips are easy indicators of dehydration.

Reco: Dr. Pawpaw Original Balm Multipurpose Soothing Balm with Natural Pawpaw (25 mL), P575; Vaseline Lip Therapy Advance Formula (10 g), P149

3. Dry Shampoo

Not washing your hair with shampoo and water is not as gross as you imagine. (Promise, mumsh, it’s really not.) It might even be better for your hair. If you don’t know yet, washing your hair daily strips the natural oils that keep it healthy. Dry shampoo only eliminates the grease and excess dirt. It saves you lots of time in the morning, too. (Alam naman natin na sampung beses ka pumindot ng snooze button bago ka bumangon.) And did we tell you about how great the smell is? It lasts all day.

Reco: Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo (7 oz.), P550; Dove Dry Shampoo Refresh+Care Inivigorating (5 oz.), P299

4. Sun Protection

For the nth time, applying sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays is a must. Not only does it prevent skin discolorations, it also keeps the wrinkles away. The most important bit (and the one reason that will invalidate all of your excuses in skipping this step): it decreases the development of skin cancer. (Hello, anoba. Pilipinas ito. Maaraw year-round.) Go for sunscreen sprays as they’re more lightweight, refreshing, and non-sticky.

Reco: Sun Bum Premium Moisturizing Sunscreen Spray (6 oz.), P1,195; Happy Skin Catch The Sun On The Go Hydrating UV Mist SPF 35 (50mL), P699

5. Primer

If your pores and sweat glands are unnecessarily extra these days, you’re not alone. We feel you, bes. This is when primers prove that they are a godsend. They combat shine, create a smooth base for your foundation, and—like a Kris Aquino product mention in IG captions—make everything last longer. Skip the silicone-based primers for now as they can feel heavy on the skin. Opt for refreshing AF water or gel primers.

Reco: Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water (116mL), P1,800; Banila Co. Prime Primer Classic (30mL), P1,150

6. Eyebrow Tint

Because #kilayislife, it only makes sense for an eyebrow tint to be a summer staple. Yes you read that right: eyebrow tint. Just like the lasting power of lip tints when you’re eating all sorts of greasy food, the eyebrow tint defies sweat, oil, heat, a dip in the pool, and even a near-death experience. You can stop worrying about your brows for at least four days straight. Dreams do come true talaga, besh.

Reco: K-Palette Lasting Brow Tint (8.5 g), P895; Maybelline Brow Tattoo Gel Tint (5mL), P599

7. Blotting powder

Excess sebum (that oily, waxy substance in your face you’ve been whining about ever since the summer started) is one problem we can beat. Just dust some blotting powder and you’ll look like you just applied your makeup two seconds ago. This makeup staple (kaway, kaway sa mga “oiliness is next to godliness” diyan) helps take away the unwanted grease and control shine throughout the day. It’s perfect for midday touch-ups or when you’re about to take your makeup from work to a night out with the squad.

Reco: Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Powder (5 g), P375; Nyx Professional Makeup Blotting Powder (8.2 g), P620
