Robin Wright will take over Kevin Spacey’s lead role in House of Cards as the American series will resume production next year.
Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos announced on Monday, December 4, that they will continue with the eight-episode final season of the show, with Robin Wright as lead role.
“I can actually give you some news in the room today because we have been in arrangement to produce a sixth season of House of Cards. It’ll be an eight-episode season that’ll start production early ’18, and it will not involve Kevin Spacey.
“It will star Robin Wright. And we’re really excited about bringing some closure to the show for fans,” Sarandos said during the Global Media and Communications Conference in New York.
Netflix fired House of Cards leading man Kevin Spacey in November after Broadway actor Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of making a sexual advance at him when he was 14 years old.
House of Cards was the first series produced exclusively for Netflix in the US. It received nine Emmy nominations for its first season, including Best Drama Series and acting nominations for Kevin Spacey as Frank Underwood and Robin Wright as Claire Underwood.
